No doubt about it, family movies have just been dominating in the box office this summer. Two weeks after Monsters University topped World War Z, we have two films come in to fight a similar battle of animated vs live action with Despicable Me 2 and The Lone Ranger. Both films premiered this past Tuesday, yet still pulled in very high numbers this Independence Day weekend, with Despicable Me 2 one-upping Disney’s latest film by a whopping 50 million dollars in gross revenue.
On another note, it’s been some time since a stand-up comedy film such as Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain has graced the silver screen. Much to our amazement, the film was actually pretty good, and we aren’t the only ones to think that. Despite the fact that the film was shown in 850+ theaters, it still performed better in average gross sales than other films that had much better distribution like say, The Lone Ranger, which was shown in 3,900 theaters.
