TREND KILLER: Lil Twist Debuts “Twerk” Featuring Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber

Twerk music has officially died.

A little over a month after taking to Twitter with the announcement he would be collaborating with two of pop’s biggest names, Young Money artist Lil Twist has released a new single called “Twerk” featuring Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. This is not a joke, but it is a bit of an embarrassment.

Complete with speaker-breaking bass and a hook that is simpler than the dance move that inspired it, “Twerk” arrived online this afternoon with very little promotion. The recording making the rounds on blogs appears to be low quality however, so there is a chance a more formal promotional push will occur in the weeks ahead. Still, if you want to hear the song the internet will be debating for the rest of the day you can do so at the end of this post.

You would have to be living in a remote area void of all pop culture to have made it this far without knowing about the twerk trend that has infiltrated hip hop this summer. Groups like Ying Yang Twins have been creating twerk music for the last decade, but a string of big hits from relevant urban music artists this year has given new life to the once underground fad, and now Lil Twist has debuted a song in hopes of hopping on the bandwagon. The only problem is, the track is not that great, and neither the contribution from Bieber or Cyrus is anything worth writing home about. Unless you consider Justin Bieber telling you to “turn up” a sign of musical greatness, of course, because in that case you may think the track found at the end of this post is one of the best songs released all year.

We interviewed Lil Twist eighteen months ago about his debut album. Since then, the record has been delayed more than half a dozen times and currently has no release date. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on “Twerk.”
