NO JOKE: Eddie Murphy Returns To Music With “Red Light”

Eddie Murphy (yes, that Eddie Murphy) is aiming to make another splash in the world of music with the release of his new Snoop Lion assisted single, “Red Light.”

Hitting the net this morning with an official music video, entertainer Eddie Murphy – now age 52 – has taken to the world of reggae with his new single “Red Light.” The song is the first to be released by Murphy in over two decades, and it fittingly features an appearance from fellow recent reggae recruit Snoop Lion. The song itself as pretty average as far as the genre is concerned, but watching Eddie perform in the video is something everyone should witness at least once. You can view the clip at the end of this post.

If you’re sitting at your computer wondering when Eddie Murphy first took to the pop airwaves, we suggest hopping a time machine back to the glory of 1980s. In 1985 Murphy topped the charts with a catchy jam called “Party All The Time,” which is still referenced anytime nostalgia for that decade pops up in pop culture (we’re looking at you, VH1). Check it out:

I have to be honest and say I doubt “Red Light” will ever see success on the same level as “Party All The Time,” but I think it will allow people to see Eddie as more of a true musician than any of his previous musical endeavors. “Red Light” might not be a radio hit, but it’s a real song, with passionate writing and instrumentation that sticks with you even after the music has stopped.

Murphy has yet to reveal anything related to an album release or touring, but we’re keeping an eye out for any and all updates regarding his future career plans. Follow UTG on Twitter for updates and comment below to let us know your thoughts on “Red Light.”
