Guillermo Del Toro Creates Couch Gag For ‘Treehouse Of Horror XXIV’

This is more than likely the last bit of small screen news we’ll have for the day, but it’s exciting stuff nonetheless.

Following a summer that found him endlessly promoting the release of Pacific Rim, director Guillermo Del Toro has been announced as a contributor to the upcoming Simpsons Halloween special, Treehouse Of Horror XXIV. Del Toro is responsible for the episode’s ‘couch gag,’ which for the unfamiliar is an ongoing joke that happens at the top of every episode. According to a press release on Spoiler TV, the Fox sitcom opener from del Toro will feature “monsters and classic characters from horror films throughout history.” No imagery or further information is available at this time.

Del Toro is not the first famous name to contribute a couch gag to The Simpsons. Bill Plympton, John Kricfalusi, and Banksy have all contributed now-classic bits to the series in recent years. You can view one of them, the controversial Banksy intro from Season 22, below.

Treehouse Of Horror XXIV airs October 6 on Fox.

I haven’t watched The Simpson for many years, (I know, I know), but holy shit, this Banksy intro was amazing.
