Plot Synopsis And First Official Image Revealed For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

There has been a lot of talk about James Gunn’s latest film, Guardians of the Galaxy, but little physical information to go off of. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro (as seen in Thor: The Dark World), Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, and more, Marvel’s next installment is due for a August 1, 2014 release.

Through all the talk, we finally have an image to gaze upon. I wish it was a teaser, or a trailer, but this will have to do for now. Arguably being the strangest film Marvel’s Cinematic Universe will release to date, for those unaware of the series’ canon, the story follows Star-Lord (Pratt), and his group of fellow space-cons, as they peruse the wide reaches of space. As we can see in the photo, the gang has been rounded up, most likely by the Nova Corps.

Us Pawnee lovers will know Pratt as the humble, yet, confused Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation. Starring in his first lead role, co-star Bradley Cooper has stated that Pratt’s performance was “unbelievable…blew me away.”

On top of the intriguing image released, we also have been given an official plot synopsis from Marvel. Follow us after the jump to take a look at the photo as well as the plot synopsis.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team — the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
