‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2’ Is Closer To Becoming A Reality Than You Think

No one expected the 2009 comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop to be a major success, but after bringing in over $140 million in box office revenue the studio behind the project felt the all-too-familiar need to attempt a sequel. That talk was quickly dismissed, but a new report from THR tells us the project may soon find life once more.

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming Andy Fickman is in discussion to direct a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop for Sony Pictures. Fickman, who previously directed The Rock in Game Plan and Escape From Witch Mountain, has yet to comment on the report.

The original Mall Cop film starred Kevin James as Paul Blart, a middle-aged man who finds life in a surburban shopping mall to be far wilder than he ever imagined. James is already signed on to reprise his role and is also back as co-writer along with Nick Bakay; the two wrote the original.

An April start is currently being planned for the sequel, but at this time we have no information regarding the plot or potential shooting locations. The original film was shot in New England, so it stands to reason the production may again head there for at least part of the sequel. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
