La Dispute Release New Song, Announce ‘Rooms Of The House’ Tracklist

One of the most anticipated albums of 2014 here at Under The Gun and around our little corner of the music community is Rooms of the House, the third full-length from Grand Rapids, Michigan post-hardcore band La Dispute. The quintet announced in December that the album would be released March 18 through their own new label, Better Living Records, but they offered little more in the way of specifics.

Today, we finally get a taste of the direction La Dispute is taking on Rooms of the House in the form of a new song, titled “Stay Happy There,” which you can stream after the break and purchase right now on iTunes. Instrumentally similar to “Edit Your Hometown” from 2011’s Wildlife, “Stay Happy There” hints at the source of the album’s title, chronicling a crumbling relationship with reference to the house where the couple in question lived.

You can also see the tracklist for Rooms of the House after the break. As usual, the song titles hint at the vivid stories (“First Reactions After Falling Through the Ice”) and emotionally crushing moments (“The Child We Lost 1963”) that have made La Dispute resonate so deeply with their fans. Here’s hoping this album is no different.

Tracklist:
1) Hudsonville, MI 1956
2) First Reactions After Falling Through the Ice
3) Woman (In Mirror)
4) Scenes from Highways 1981-2009
5) For Mayor in Splitsville
6) 35
7) Stay Happy There
8) The Child We Lost 1963
9) Woman (Reading)

So happy that it’s everything I was hoping it’d be.

I’m happy about it for the most part but I’m also disappointed in the mixing the way I was hoping I wouldn’t be. The guitars sound too compressed and drowned out in a way. I was wary of Yip’s hands in this as much I like most of his work but I just didn’t see La Dispute’s sound working with his techniques.
