The Chain Gang Of 1974 Premieres “You”

Kamtin Mohager is the man behind The Chain Gang Of 1974. He was the touring bassist for 3OH!3 for a few years before deciding to take on his new moniker. He’s released a handful of albums since then, and is now poised to drop his fourth studio album, Daydream Forever, February 4. With the release date being a little over a week away now, he decided to go ahead and premiere a new single off the album. The song is titled “You,” and you can listen to it below.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the song, Mohager recalls seeing the aftermath of a fatal car accident where the cyclist was struck by a vehicle. He remembers seeing the body of the cyclist on the ground and thinking of the life the man left behind. He then wrote this song, dedicated to the man.

When I was living in Malibu, a cyclist was struck by a vehicle and killed. I drove past and saw his body on the road. It was a very surreal scene to witness. I started to imagine him having a wife and young daughter, and how they were now left behind without that important figure in their lives. I started thinking about my own parents, and how everyone will eventually move onto the next world. The song ended up being about this man, who in my eyes was this hero to his family.
