RIP: ‘Searching For Sugar Man’ Director, Malik Bendjelloul

Malik Bendjelloul

Documentary filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul was found dead today in Stockholm, Sweden at the far too young age of 36. Police spokesperson Pia Glenvik has reportedly confirmed the death, but specifics are currently being withheld from the public.

Bendjelloul’s most recognizable work to date was his Oscar award-winning rockumentary, Searching for Sugar Man, which debuted in the summer of 2012. Coincidentally, our very own Derek Scancarelli had recently posted a photoset and review of a Greenvale, NY concert put on by Sixto Rodriguez, the very subject of the film.

It truly is a tragedy to see the passing of one who was in line for such a bright future. Follow the jump to see a clip of Bendjelloul’s Oscar acceptance speech.
