‘Black Mass’ Set Photos: First Images Of Johnny Depp As James ‘Whitey’ Bulger Surface Online

Earlier today we wrote to you about a new documentary about James ‘Whitey’ Bulger being released nationwide in June. In that post we also mentioned the possibility of seeing multiple biopics on Bulger enter production in the years ahead, and less than three hours later an email hit our inbox confirming that very thought.

Right now, somewhere in the world, Johnny Depp is dressed as Whitey and working away on a new movie titled Black Mass. The film takes its title from a book on Bulger’s reign released several years back, and from the looks of it will span the entire former mob boss’ entire life of crime. The email I mentioned arriving in our inbox earlier included two photos of Depp from the set of Black Mass, and in each image the Pirates Of The Caribbean star can be seen dressed as an older/more recent version of Bulger, likely near the time of his initial arrest. You can view both images at the end of this post.

Black Mass is scheduled to begin shooting in Boston on May 19, and you can rest assured UTG is already planning to have several staffers attempt to scout the announced filming locations in hopes of a scoop. The film will open nationwide in October 2015, but no specific date has been set at this time.
