Adult Swim’s Single Series has delivered a number of intriguing tracks over the past few summers, with whoever curates the series having a deft hand for picking artists currently rising or resurfacing into the spotlight. Wye Oak, The Field, Miguel, Run the Jewels, Dan Deacon, an annual appearance by Captain Murphy – it always promises to at least be interesting throughout the year.

Granted, they are “rising” in a very specific, not even slightly mainstream community. VP of  Adult Swim On-Air Jason Demarco is very aware of this. As quoted in Billboard:

“Adult Swim has become a success by making great shows and putting out great work without worrying too much about what’s mainstream. For us, it’s more interesting to use the platform of Adult Swim to provide great music — whether the artist is a known act, a ‘name,’ an up-and-comer, or a total unknown. The through line for me is that they are making great music. Our fans respond to that.

This year’s contributors have been announced, and it is once again a selection that fits both that mission statement and Adult Swim’s audience.

Captain Murphy and Run the Jewels have returned, and they are joined by Deafheaven (every non-black metalhead’s favorite black metal band), Tim Hecker (every non-ambient noise kid’s favorite ambient noise artist), Giorgio Moroder, Future (who will get the animated video treatment), Speedy Ortiz, Sleep (who just announced a tour), Mastodon ft. Gibby Hayes of the Butthole Surfers (Mastodon just released another song, too), Diarrhea Planet, and more.
