Aubrey Plaza has been making a healthy living for years with a very specific brand of delightfully bristling, asocial personality in movies, on TV, and through her Twitter account (@evilhag). Her new film looks to have her transcending from her classic destructive banter (or anti-banter) to plain old destruction.
Life After Beth stars Plaza as the titular Beth, a recently dead, now reanimated young woman trying to make it through those same challenges we all face at that age: young love, overprotective family, and a crippling desire to consume human flesh. In the new trailer for the film, we see Plaza escalate from “gee guys, why’s everyone being so weird” to full on flesh-craving, tied-to-an-oven rampages. It looks like a fun, self-aware post-apocalyptic style romp starring one of our favorite young actresses, much like last year’s Plaza-pal Anna Kendrick vehicle Rapturepalooza.
Speaking of Kendrick, she looks to have a small part in this film, which is headlined by Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reilly, Cheryl Hines, Molly Shannon, and a number of other names you’ll know. DeHaan technically looks to be a co-lead, but he also looks to be largely a straight man springboard for more undead Plaza shenanigans. The film was written and directed by Jeff Baena whose other most notable credit is writing for I Heart Huckabees.
