Stars Announce New Album ‘No One Is Lost,’ Stream Single

Stars No One Is Lost

Canadian indie rock group Stars have confirmed they will be releasing a new album, titled No One Is Lost, on October 14 via ATO Records. The follow-up to 2012’s The North is comprised of 11 songs and was produced by both the band and Liam O’Neil (Metric, The Stills). Since it was recorded beneath a club, the constant throb of bass beats influenced them to create an autonomous and serendipitous record that pushes them forward.

Don’t think it’s all fun and games, though. According to the band, the album title is a joke because “We are all going to lose this game [of life].” Lead singer-songwriter Torquil Campbell sums it up best: “Life is loss, love is loss, and loving people is about accepting that you’re going to have to say goodbye to them. And that’s why it’s fucking brave. That’s Stars’ ethos: this life is very heartbreaking and sad… so let’s get completely fucking arseholed and listen to some Dionne Warwick.”

Lead single “From The Night” works to hug the sun with one arm and the moon with the other. “Let’s be young,” is quickly followed with “Let’s pretend that we never will die,” a constant reminder that life and death are equally easy to toy with. As Torquil explains, “I always find it so moving and beautiful to watch people have their nights out. There’s something so heartbreaking about it. People have jobs that they have to get up for, jobs they hate, and they live for the weekend; they live for these moments. And they put everything they have into it.” Give it a listen over at NPR.

The band plans to tour in support of the release. Their first bath of dates announced sees them voyaging across North America, although it’s likely more dates including Europe will follow. Check out the full list of tour dates, as well as the tracklist to No One Is Lost, below.
