No, that headline is not a lie. The greatest living diva is gearing up to release a new album of covers, and earlier today her take on one relatively young diva’s modern classic debuted online.

Few artists have the ability to instill a sense of excitement and fun in your average music fan quite like Aretha, and it’s not all that hard to understand why. For Decades, Aretha Franklin has been a beacon for all that is good and entertaining in the world of music. Even when her health began to fail, Franklin was a rock in the pop community, and her presence today is still as relevant as ever. Her take on Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” is the kind of dream recording you never think will ever actually get made, yet somehow it exists and we average Joes and Janes are allowed to hear it, for free, without having to break a single law. Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, which features 10 covers of both classic and contemporary hits, including Barbra Streisand’s “People,” Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” and Alicia Keys’ “No One,” is scheduled for released on October 21.
