The First ‘Magic Mike XXL’ Trailer Is Perfect

I don’t know what we were supposed to expect from Magic Mike, but the film loosely based on Channing Tatum’s own life wowed critics and audiences around the globe when it was released in 2012. The film, which followed a male stripper’s life in Florida, outperformed every other film about men being strippers that we can think of, and this summer the main cast hopes to find repeat success with Magic Mike XXL. Yes, that is the real title.

Today, fans of the first film were treated to a tease of the upcoming sequel when the flick’s first trailer debuted online. The clip focuses heavily on Channing Tatum’s character, opening with a quasi-dance sequence that takes place in the character’s workshop while a remix of Ginuwine’s “Pony” plays in the background, but also features several familiar faces. You can view the clip below:

As you can see, the gang is on a road trip in the new film. The official synopsis for Magic Mike XXL reads:

Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

Magic Mike XXL hits theaters July 1, 2015.
