James Shotwell 
Don Cornelius, the man most famously known for creating Soul Train, has died of an apparent suicide at the age of 75.
TMZ broke news of Cornelius’ death today, claiming cops discovered his body early this morning with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His family has been informed, but has yet to release a statement.
Soul Train originally premiered in 1971 and almost immediately changed the face of television forever. The show ran with varying degrees of success until it finally ended in 2006.
There is no doubt Don Cornelius will be missed for years to come. Click past the jump to see his legend in action.
