Her voice has been given too few opportunities to truly shine on its own merit, but this morning that time has finally come thanks to the release of her About Time soundtrack contribution, “How Long Will I Love You.”

The latest film from the creator of Love Actually and Notting Hill, About Time is a love story hitting US theaters this November. The film tells the story of a man who learns he can travel through time and decides to use his abilities to land the girl of his dreams. As these kinds of things tend to go, he soon learns that falling in love is not quite as easy as it sounds. Here’s the trailer:

So, how does Ellie Goulding fit into this sentimental tale? Leaving the world of EDM behind, “How Long Will I Love You” is a stirring ballad that leans on the evocative power of Goulding’s vocals to win you over. This tactic is a stunning success, and though the track clocks in at under three minutes I dare anyone to make it through without feeling at least the slightest tug on their heartstrings. It’s the kind of simple love song that will live on through playlists and weddings for decades to come, surpassing the shelf life of Goulding’s current hits in no time, and you can enjoy the song in full at the end of this post.
