Isao Takahata may not be as prolific of a director as fellow Ghibli animator/auteur, Hayao Miyazaki, but he certainly has some hits under his belt — namely his ultra-depressing (but ultimately beautiful) WWII-era piece, Grave Of The Fireflies. That very same year (1988) Miyazaki released his iconic My Neighbor Totoro, and here we are 25 years later with both directors simultaneously releasing new works.
Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises, allegedly his final feature film, has already seen limited screenings at festivals this year but won’t get a US wide release until February 28 via Disney, following a limited release the week prior. The Tale of Princess Kaguya, however, will soon be released in Japan with no US release currently announced. We’ll assume mid to late 2014 would be a safe bet.
In the meantime, a new trailer has surfaced which you can view after the jump, along with a new US poster for The Wind Rises.
