Intervals Premiere New Song, Add Vocalist

One of the biggest chances an instrumental band can take is the addition of vocalist. It fundamentally changes the nature of their music and risks alienating fans who don’t relate to the lyrics. Canadian progressive metalcore act Intervals have made that big leap on their upcoming album, A Voice Within, and you can hear some of the results after the break.

The first single from the album, “Ephemeral,” features the technical riffs, grooves, and shredding guitar solos that fans of their 2012 EP, In Time, have come to love, but this time they set stage for bassist and former Haarp Machine vocalist Mike Semesky’s confident and powerful voice. If this song is any indication, there will be no awkward transition period into the new take on their sound. In fact, they don’t consider the change as monumental as it looks from the outside. According to guitarist Aaron Marshall, “The human voice is an instrument and from our perspective, we are by definition, still an ‘instrumental’ band, now with added dimension and perspective.”

There is currently no release date set for A Voice Within, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as news comes out. In the meantime, catch Intervals on tour in Europe with Protest the Hero throughout January and February of next year.
