THE DROP: Featuring Jay Cosmic, Kastle, Twofold and More

While electronic music is generally not the main focus of Under The Gun’s coverage, there are quite a few members of our team who enjoy everything from dubstep and d&b to hardstyle and house. Thus, staff writer Michael Giegerich is heading the revival of The Drop, a retired column some longtime readers may remember.

Focusing on producers who aren’t headlining Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland (not yet, anyway), this list will provide you with five artists and their must-hear tracks. If you have any suggestions for who should be added to the next edition of this feature, contact us on Twitter and let us know.

Bratkilla – “Brothers” (Moth remix)

Dubstep is intrinsically heavy, but Moth’s take on the genre is a completely different beast that pushes sonic boundaries to their breaking point. With his hometown listed as Hell on Facebook, the utter evil nature of his music goes hand in hand as his bass lines and synths are outright vicious. The producer’s remix of Bratkilla’s “Brothers” is a shining example of just how far he can manipulate sounds into a sonic assault that pierces into one’s soul like a red-hot iron.

DVBBS & Borgeous  – “Tsunami”  (Jay Cosmic remix)

“Tsunami” is one of the few enjoyable tracks continuing to ride the wave of festival house’s fifteen minutes of fame, but Jay Cosmic has completely flipped DVBB’s most successful work on its head with a blistering hardstyle remix. As more and more producers continue to push for bringing hardstyle to the ears of larger audiences (cc: Krewella), expect to hear this take at shows far and wide as it is begging to be slammed through an arsenal of bass-heavy amps.

UFO! & Hoodie – “Fissa”

Moombahton never reached its peak potential within the electronic community, but tracks such as “Fissa” have the ability to carry the genre on their back to greater heights if the moment is right. Featuring traditional Latin instrumentation mixed with the hip-turning grooves and bass-heavy goodness, the cut is in absolute banger. Somewhere out there, Dave Nada is shedding tears of joy.

Alexisonfire – “To a Friend” (Twofold remix)

Signed to Datsik’s Firepower Records, one would be fair to assume Twofold is another exclusive creator of filth, but alas, that is not the case. Rather, he also shines when focusing on melodic elements to craft absolutely gorgeous dubstep. This is highly apparent on his remix of Alexisonfire’s “To a Friend,” as the only thing missing while listening to the emotion-filled track is a sea of ravers raising their lighters to the sky.

Justin Bieber – “All That Matters” (Kastle remix)

Justin Bieber combined with throwback house music is an undeniably strange premise on paper, but it all makes sense when one is exposed to Kastle’s remix of “All That Matters.” Featuring a funky bass line along with signature drum samples, the accused vandal’s voice glides across the instrumentals naturally when not being chopped up into modulated chunks as the song breaks down. Maybe (fingers crossed and rabbit foot donned) Bieber will take notice of this cut and consider bringing in Kastle for a full-length?
