Macklemore To Kendrick Lamar On Grammys: “I Wanted You To Win”

All appearances would suggest that Macklemore is a genuine, humble guy. He seems to always have a smile on his face, and being that humble guy that he is, he’s not about to let something like the Grammys get in between him and friendship. Being as he and Kendrick Lamar are in similar genres, the two have been pitted against each other musically numerous times over this last year. According to Macklemore though, they have maintained a friendly relationship.

As you probably know by now, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis made off with four Grammys last night, and Lamar did not receive any. Though I don’t think there’s any reason to doubt that the Seattle based duo didn’t deserve those awards, Macklemore decided to text Lamar to let him know that he felt he (Lamar) should have won rap album of the year. Macklemore took a screenshot of the text and posted it on instagram with the following explanation:

My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you.
