This week in Stand-Up Tuesdays, I present a special that I, personally, have been waiting for for quite some time – and more than worth it that wait was. Last week, comedian Jackie Kashian released her brand new special, This Will Make An Excellent Horcrux, through All Things Records for – you guessed it – only five bucks.

This is going to be the best way possible for you to spend five dollars, hands down.

I’ve listened to and watched an inordinate amount of stand up comedy in my lifetime, as you’ve probably guessed. In that lifetime I’ve laughed, I’ve wanted to heckle (wanted to, but would never), I’ve even wanted to take the comedian by the shoulders and shake him or her really hard for not living up to his or her potential. It’s not often, however, that I’m left laughing so hard I cried – which was uniquely the case while watching Kashian’s special.

Don’t worry if the special’s title holds absolutely no meaning for you – Kashian is quick to explain it in the introduction to the special, citing it as a Harry Potter reference. If you’re not into that, don’t worry – it’s certainly not a common theme throughout Kashian’s hour. The utterly likable, high-energy comedian instead delights her audience with rapid-pace, well-timed intelligent comedy that is as refreshing as it is hilarious. How many comedians do you know that can work in a successful joke about the Salem Witch Trials?

Kashian herself cites a huge reason for why she’s just so likable: “This is not a cougar; this is not a MILF. This is a lady who makes a hell of a pot roast. If you miss your mom, I’ll hug you.”

Kashian has a warmth and magnetism about her that immediately draws you in, leaving you eager to hear more. From the moment she takes the stage, you’re absolutely hooked on Jackie Kashian. In fact, one of the more difficult aspects of having to write this review was the fact that I can’t stop watching This Will Make An Excellent Horcrux long enough to get it out on time.

You need to head on over to All Things Records right now and download This Will Make An Excellent Horcrux for a mere five dollars and enjoy one of the most entertaining hours of comedy I’ve seen in the past year. Seriously, do it – I mean, if you don’t have five dollars, tweet me. I will purchase up to three copies of the special for fans who truly can’t afford to spend the money. It’s that good.
