‘Jem and the Holograms’ Is Heading Towards The Big Screen

Remember when Josie and the Pussycats was made into a live-action movie and it was the best thing ever? Well, here’s to hoping the same can be done with Jem and the Holograms.

There’s quite the team behind this one including Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun Productions and director Jon M. Chu. Yes, that Braun, the man responsible for bringing Justin Bieber across the Canadian border. Let’s not write this Jem thing off just yet though. Bieber was good – at the beginning of his career so as long as this doesn’t spawn sequels, it could be okay.

As for Chu, this is a far cry from his other directing jobs like the Paranormal Activity movies, but he might have a good grasp on this since he was behind the camera on Step Up 2: The Streets and Bieber’s Never Say Never.

The script, written by Ryan Landels, follows an orphaned girl who breaks out online. That sounds all too familiar. Anyway, she then goes on an adventure through LA with her girls on a musical scavenger hunt to find a message from her long lost dad. Two major questions though: will The Misfits be involved? And since it’s set in modern times to play on the social media idea – what can we expect from the fashion?

You can watch Blum, Braun and Chu’s announcement below. In it they tell you how great it is, plead with fans to post all over the internet about how much they love the ‘80s toon and also ask for casting advice.
