‘Forrest Gump’ Is Headed To Imax Later This Year

“Jenny, I don’t know if Momma was right or if, if it’s Lieutenant Dan. I don’t know if we have a destiny, or if we’re all just floatin’ around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it’s both. Maybe both is happenin’ at the same time.”

After twenty years on home video and DVD, Forrest Gump is returning to theaters on the biggest screens in the world.

Paramount Pictures have announced that they will be rereleasing the Academy Award winning film Forrest Gump for a limited engagement on IMAX beginning September 5, 2014. The release coincides with the film’s twentieth anniversary, and if we had to guess a special edition Blu-ray will follow not long after the film bows out of cinemas.

Forrest Gump originally opened on July 6, 1994. Critics were fond of the film from the very beginning, and strong word of mouth from audience members helped carry the film to a global gross of $677 million. It was nominated for a whopping 13 Academy Awards and earned six trophies, including best actor for Hanks and best director for Zemeckis.

We are huge fans of Forrest Gump at UTG, but even we will admit that the idea of seeing Hanks’ beloved character in IMAX feels a bit unnecessary. Wouldn’t a theatrical reissue suffice?

There may be additional Forrest Gump news in the months to come. Follow UTG on Twitter for updates.
