Leonard Cohen Working on New Album for 80th Birthday

When you’ve left as big of a mark on the music world as Leonard Cohen has, you’re free to end your career pretty much whenever you please. But of course, Cohen’s too filled with musical muse to stop.

According to Rolling Stone, the iconic singer-songwriter will drop a new album shortly after he turns 80 on September 21. Although his representative has yet to confirm the release, word slipped at a fan convention Leonard Cohen Event 2014 in Dublin. “He asked me to let you know that Popular Problems will be out at the end of September, shortly after his 80th birthday,” Jarkko Arjatsalo, who runs Cohen’s official site, wrote in his foreword for the event booklet. He reports that the musician has been working on a “studio album of entirely new songs.”

Arjatsalo confirmed that he received the information “directly from Leonard” when emailing with Rolling Stone, adding that as of now there are no plans to tour surrounding the release.
