With each bit we hear from Pianos Become The Teeth‘s Epitaph Records debut, Keep You, we grow accustomed to their somewhat drastic change in sound. The complete omission of screaming previously found throughout their catalogue has left many fans scratching their heads (and bitching), but we’re embracing the new sound as it makes for some of the best material we’ve heard so far this year.

Following the incredible single “Repine,” “Late Lives,” which premiered over at BrooklynVegan today, continues PBTT’s shift with a gorgeously poignant and quietly powerful offering that builds in both beauty and sadness over the course of its nearly four-minute runtime. Featuring a slow melody, soaring, post-rock guitar work and Kyle Durfey’s clean vocal display, “Late Lives” serves as one of the band’s strongest tracks to date.
