For a decade now, listening to Lymbyc Systym‘s music has provided me with some sort of euphoria; a calming, often hypnotic escape from the woes of the world. Luckily, the New York duo have announced a new full-length album, offering 10 more unique cuts from which to obtain that blissful feeling.
Today, Jared and Mike Bell have shared the lead single and title track from their upcoming fourth LP, titled Split Stones. With a lengthy six-minute runtime, the only issue with “Split Stones” is that it isn’t twice as long. Serving as one of their best creations to date, this new song has everything I love about LS on display: beautiful layers of instrumentation, an original structure, calming ambience, a little bit of groove and unpredictability.
In regards to the idea behind the song, Jared Bell explains to Stereogum where it premiered, “The metaphor of ‘split stones’ describes a sense of solidity in the physical self, often in direct opposition with the fragmented nature of the mind — an idea was inspired by listening back through the tape. It also encompasses our relationship as bandmates. We’re internally connected by blood and music, but physically, we live on opposite end of the country.”
You can stream “Split Stones” as many times as you would like below where you’ll also find the album’s cover art and track list. Pre-orders for Split Stones are available now through Western Vinyl until the album’s official release on October 16.
