Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Brooklyn Bowl in New York to photograph Shaggy on February 25, 2014.
On February 25, Brooklyn Bowl hosted an epic concert to a sold-out crowd. The venue, which has a capacity of 600, has hosted quite a few packed shows. From the Bouncing Souls to Action Bronson, I’ve had a blast every time I’ve been there. This show, in particular was fantastic. Well, if we want to get technical, it was boombastic. Yes, I went there.
Shaggy took stage in Brooklyn to a venue that features a bowling alley and some of the freshest beer that Brooklyn Brewery has to offer. Despite what you may be thinking, the show wasn’t just filled with obnoxious hipsters who were there ironically. It was actually filled with people of all ages and walks of life who were just out to have a good time.
The show’s energy was not reflective of a cold Tuesday night in New York, but of a party in a much warmer (and happier) climate. Opening the show was RSNY, a Jamaican representing hip-hop group from Rockaway, NY who really got the crowd going.
Shaggy performed songs from the 90s up through his newest 2013 release Out Of Many, One Music. If you chalk him up as a “one hit wonder” type of artist, you’re really selling him short and missing out on some funky and happy reggae music. That being said, he did perform classics “It Wasn’t Me,” “Angel,” and “Mr. Boombastic.”
