DMX Slams Drake Over Aaliyah Album

DMX has a new album in stores this week, which means he is currently making the rounds on every radio station, television broadcast, podcast, and print publication that will give him a moment of their time. Somewhere in this mix he took a moment to speak with MTV’s RapFixLive, who asked the “Already” rapper how he felt about Drake’s decision to produce the upcoming Aaliyah album. X responded:

“He has talent, but it’s kinda redundant, it’s kinda the same all the time to me personally. It’s an annoying sound. I’m kinda feelin’ some kinda a way about the fact that you been commissioned, that you been blessed, you’ve been given the opportunity to do the Aaliyah album yet you don’t include anybody that she worked with personally. I’ma tell you why I’m mad, son. How do you disregard what this woman did? What this beautiful angel did and say, ‘Oh OK, I’m gonna take it for myself because I’m hot right now and I’m feelin’ myself,’. How do you just go there with it? Your balls ain’t that big, son.”

Say what you will about how he said it, but I think X definitely has a point. Timbaland & Missy Elliot have confirmed they have no part in this record, so it’s hard to believe Drake is trying to give the world the same Aaliyah fans have been yearning for. In fact, it seems more likely than not that the YMCMB megastar will be using this record to further his own position in culture, instead of keeping the focus on one of our most missed songstresses.

What do you think? Sound off below and let us know if DMX was out of line.

He sampled one Aaliyah song and now he’s an expert?? come on now, who the hell authorized this? please stop this fool… Nobody wants to here that nasal bullshit messing her shit up

I agree with X and understand why he should be upset about what Drake is trying to do. Drake has no relationship and never worked with Aaliyah. Drake is at the very end of the line to have that authorization. I didn’t like his verse on the song “Enough Said”….Way too much cussing and taking shots at Chris Brown. That was very disrespectful and dishonoring a deceased artist. Not cool at all
