Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Releasing New Album, Stream “Austerity Blues”

Godspeed You! Black Emperor offshoot Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (who also go by a series of abbreviated names like A Silver Mt. Zion, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, and so on and so on) will be putting out a new LP on January 21 via Constellation. Titled Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything, the album will contain six (most likely lengthy) tracks, one of which, “Austerity Blues,” you can stream below.

Fuck Off Get Free is the band’s first new material since 2010’s Kollaps Tradixionales. A press release says that the material was written by their current five-person lineup, including Godspeed’s Efrim Menuck, and that the material is “heavier” and more “direct” than past releases. You can hear some of that in “Austerity Blues,” even with just the seven-minute snippit (the whole song is fourteen minutes long) they’ve provided. The final track, “Rains Thru The Roof At Thee Grande Ballroom (For Capital Steez),” is a tribute to rapper Capital Steez, a member of Joey Bada$$‘s Pro Era crew who died last year at age 19.

Below you can find an album trailer made by the band, the tracklist, and the stream of “Austerity Blues.”
