With vocalist Tim Lambesis tied up in legal matters and facing up to nine years in prison with his sentence hearing scheduled to take place on May 2, As I Lay Dying fans have been left wondering about the future of the band. They’ve been quiet to this point, but have now broken their silence as the four remaining members of As I Lay Dying have taken to Instagram to answer those questions. Sort of.
Each band member has uploaded separate video clips featuring snippets of new material they have presumably recorded in Lambesis’ absence. In addition to showcasing the band’s more melodic side, the videos also seem to suggest bassist Josh Gilbert, who had previously handled the clean vocals for the band, could be stepping into the role of lead vocalist. These videos can be viewed below.
As exciting as it is to see some activity from these guys, the videos probably bring about more questions than they do answers. Will the band continue under the As I Lay Dying moniker? Is there more value in name recognition than in starting fresh without the negative stigma now associated with the As I Lay Dying name? How will the band’s sound change without Lambesis’ signature bark, and how will the band pull off their older material in a live setting? Or will they try to completely distance themselves from those songs? Or maybe they have recruited another lead singer and they’re just waiting for the right time to make that announcement? Sorry, you’ll have to excuse my impatience.

He may not have succeeded in killing his wife but he surely killed the band.
