Smashing Pumpkins’ Drummer Replaced By Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently spoke with Music Radar about being honored with the AP Vanguard Award at the inaugural AP Music Awards, their new album, and the future of the band. During that interview, he confirmed that drummer Mike Byrne has left. “Tommy Lee is the drummer on the [Monuments to an Elegy],” he said. “Mike, like Elvis, has left the building.”

When Smashing Pumpkins announced they would be putting out two new records in 2015, there was word of Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee stepping onboard to drum. Now, after Corgan’s statement, the rumors regarding Monuments To An Elegy are true. It’s been four years since Byrne joined back in 2010, replacing Jimmy Chamberlain. He was just 19-years-old.
