Josh Scogin, to me, is the pinnacle of hardcore. My first true experience with any form of true “heavy music,” was Scogin’s work with his old band Norma Jean and their [still best] album, Bless The Martyr, Kiss The Child. From that day forward I held Scogin’s incredibly metaphoric and deep lyrical musings along with his ability to place it amongst musical madness on a high shelf of respect. That said, I was a lot more than axious to hear Scogin’s newest work with his current group, The Chariot. Wars and Rumors of Wars, out May 5th, is the group’s third label release and their most refined to date. The madness of the first record is their, but with the skill and finer tuning of The Fiancee. From the first few beats onward, there is an onslaught of guitars, bass, drums, and of course, Scogin being Scogin. The lyrical work is above and beyond his best and everything just leaves you panting for more. There is no epic turn here, it’s still a pretty short record, but it’s just the kick of heavy we need to roll into the summer and fall months of 2009. There will be much more on this soon enough, but for now, GO PRE-ORDER IT!
