MOVIE TRAILER: Prometheus

Prometheus Movie Poster

What a week for trailers! In the past several days, we’ve seen trailers for The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and now Ridley Scott’s ALIEN related project, Prometheus.

As a huge fan of the Alien series originally pioneered by Scott in 1979, the first whiff of an Alien prequel had me suppressing squeals of pure joy. Word circulated that not one, but two movies were planned to tell the tale of where the Xenomorphs came from. However, plans changed. From his original plans sprang a brand new story that would indirectly precede the story-lines of the original films. This new epic promises to explore the Weyland terraforming corporation before it’s merger with the Yutani Group, The origins of the Space Jockey, and much, much more. The Official tagline reads:

Ridley Scott, director of ‘Alien’ and ‘Blade Runner,’ returns to the genre he helped define. With ‘Prometheus’, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Speculation on the story and content of this movie have been in heated debate for quite some time. Much like Cloverfield, or Super 8, Prometheus is leaving it up to it’s followers to conjure their own ideas about the film. No official trailers have yet been released. That doesn’t stop bootleggers, however. One theater patron with a camera captured the first trailer for Prometheus and posted it online for commentary. In it, you’ll see several nods or direct likenesses to the original Alien movie including the slowly appearing letters, neon green liquids in laboratories, and a quick clip of the Space Jockey coming up from the floor. If this doesn’t get excited, you are no sci-fi junkie friend of mine.

Prometheus is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 8th, 2012. I already have this in my calendars. Add it to yours and scope the trailer inside before Fox removes it!
