Actress Noomi Rapace States That The Script For ‘Prometheus’ Sequel Is In The Works

The Playlist got a doozy of a scoop while they were chatting with actress Noomi Rapace.

During a press junket for her upcoming thriller Dead Man Down (due out March 8), IndieWire writer Ben Taylor turned the topic of conversation from Rapace’s definite upcoming project to more speculative fare. Specifically, the possibility of a sequel to Prometheus, last year’s Ridley Scott helmed sorta-prequel to the Alien film franchise. And who better to ask than the heroine of the first (potential) installment and parenthetical followup?

On the possibility of a “Prometheus 2”, Rapace had this to say:

They’re working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It’s just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.

Great to hear. If there was ever a movie that deserved a follow-up addressing the various narrative threads, plot devices, and Big Important Questions introduced by its predecessor, it’s Prometheus.

Rapace acknowledged as much while speaking with Taylor:

She then implied that the speculative angles are things she would like to see influence the sequel. “And it’s interesting because people, most people I’ve talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations,” Rapace explained. “And for me, if we do a second one, there are a lot of things to explore in there and to continue.” She added: “I would love to do it.”

Further details on a potential sequel to Prometheus remain few and far between. We know that Ridley Scott will return to direct (duh) but co-writer for the first movie Damon Lindelof (Lost, Star Trek Into Darkness) won’t have a hand in penning the script for the sequel.

Then again, they might be a bit further long in the writing process for Prometheus 2 than Rapace cared to admit at that moment. SlashFlim points to the following tweet from film critic Todd Gilchrist from yesterday that whoever is writing the dang thing is already pretty far along in the scripting process.

So which is it Noomi Noom? Are Ridley and company still working out the kinks in their story. Or is Prometheus 2 locked, loaded, and ready to shoot?
