Wednesday has shown its soul-crushing face once more, but this week we have a new pop act for you to discover that is going to change the mood of your entire day (if not week).

Hailing from Los Angeles, Smallpools is a newly formed quartet that boasts a sound that is both fun and well structured. In a time where many acts are hopping on the indie bandwagon with stripped down pop tracks, Smallpools are delivering densely layered jams that make you want to sing along as much as the make you want to dance. Had they popped up in the spring, they would most certainly have been our pick for the soundtrack to your summer, but even now their music is sure to strike a chord that lasts for weeks to come.

Serving up their first video as an accompaniment to their single, “Dreaming,” Smallpools take the classic house party approach to capturing the feel of their music. It’s high-class yet mildly shameless, and carries the message that the only way to truly have fun in life is to just let go and live in the moment, which is something we at UTG can certainly get behind. I have not felt the kind of spirit-lifting rush that arrived the first time I heard Smallpools since Betty Who came on our radar back in April. Make time today to experience Smallpools, and then set aside time tomorrow to revisit them once more. They will be everywhere soon.
