The Swellers Release New Single, “High/Low”

Michigan punk mainstays The Swellers released a new song, “High/Low,” and its video at midnight. Yet another track made available from their upcoming back-to-basics album The Light Under Closed Doors, the track has a slow, measured stomp to it that’s heavy both on the ears and those ever played-upon heartstrings. The emotional heft is abetted by the lo-fi capture of an adorable little blonde boy wandering through the Michigan wilderness to escape a tumultuous home life.

“High/Low” follows uptempo first single “Should” – which contains the album’s titular lyric – and the even more loved “Becoming Self-Aware” as the third track from The Light Under Closed Doors. The song actually premiered over on the Huffington Post; scroll waaay down to the very bottom of the article to find it. The little headline isn’t ideal – ‘Getting “High/Low” With The Swellers’ – but the blurb includes some nice background information in the form of a quote from drummer Jono Diener. Diener also co-directed the video with Jack Schmier.

The Light Under Closed Doors is set to be The Swellers’ first with No Sleep Records, with its release slated for October 29. The band will be embarking on a lengthy six-week house show tour – in line with the “back to basics” theme of it all – shortly before the album’s release.
