Good morning, everyone! We have a jam packed day of features ahead, and we figured there was no better way to get things rolling than by sharing some exciting new music from our friends at Switchbitch Records.
Later this week up and coming rock outfit Flannel Mouth will be premiering their new single, “Oh, Bastard.” The song is a balls-to-the-wall rock track that lights a fire in your veins, and this morning we’re sharing the first teaser for the song. The Tallgrass Prairies of Illinois are carrying the sounds of Flannel Mouth yet again, this time in the form of a new single entitled “Oh, Bastard.” The song, though independent of an album, showcases the emergence of Flannel Mouth’s ability to write a hard-hitting single whilst staying true to their unique brand of theatric rock, displayed on 2012’s Pull in Your Horns. “Oh, Bastard” finds itself jumping from bouncy, melodic bass lines betwixt a crooning fiddle to a stomping hook surrounded by prog-inspired instrumentals, and it all supplements the dismal story of a boy born to parents with other priorities and the ultimate fates of anyone involved. The vocals are highlighted by guttural emotion and punctuated by barbershop quartet-like harmonies throughout, making this track easily accessible for fans of Cursive, Modest Mouse, Dear & the Headlights, and more.

I can’t wait to hear the rest of this song. Flannel Mouth’s music has this way of leaving me feeling apprehensive (which could be due to the crawling skin and knotted stomach that’s brought on by listening to them), yet desperate to hear more. This song, judging by a 30 second snippet, seems to fit that bill.
