You know those things that come along in life that you never could have dreamt up for yourself to have wanted or loved yet you come across them and sure enough, it’s exactly that? Well Tears For Fears covering Animal Collective’s ultra-popular “My Girls” is one of those things. I never would have imagined such an event in my own head but now that I’ve found the cover (and official video) I wish I could have dreamt it so that it could result in one of those rare instances where I say, “Dreams really do come true!”
Adding to TFF’s recent series of “warm-up” covers in preparation for their upcoming LP, following renditions of a Hot Chip and an Arcade Fire track, the band that most audiophiles from my generation only know because of Donnie Darko has uploaded a (dare I say) perfect cover of “My Girls” in what the band refers to as “reciprocal cross-generational love.” That original, undeniable groove is still intact but there’s a bit more of the ’80s vibe that you’d expect which has us head over heels with this version.
I’ve heard some excellent covers of “My Girls” before but Tears For Fears have really done it justice. Stream it after the jump and let us know if you agree.
