Hear Fiona Apple and Maude Maggart’s Duet on “I’m in the Middle Of A Riddle”

Sometimes even the most bummer-riffic musicians write happy love songs, and Fiona Apple is now one of them. She joined up with her sister, cabaret singer Maude Maggart, to duet on a new version of the oldie “I’m in the Middle of a Riddle.” Give a listen after the jump.

The song is a part of the Valentine’s Day compilation Sweetheart 2014 due out February 4 through digital retails (or Starbucks for physical copies). The long list of love songs sees names like Jim James, Beck, Vampire Weekend, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and more crooning to win your heart over.

Austrian composer Anton Karas first wrote “I’m in the Middle of a Riddle” in 1950, but Apple and Maggart’s version brings the waltz original over to Italy for spaghetti date guitar parts and long-haired maiden vocals. Then again, I guess maybe the two already fit that description.  Hear their cover below:
