No Oasis Reunion; Band Re-Releasing First Three Studio Albums In 2014

Oasis are one of the few bands who can still cause a digital fuss online whenever they decide to make an announcement. Not so unlike The Smiths, every hint of action from within the Oasis camp is immediately extrapolated by fans and the press to signify signs of a reunion and possible album/tour/etc. The story this week was that Oasis may finally be putting aside their differences and getting back together, but the truth of the matter is far less incredible.

According to a new update on the recently relaunched Oasis website:

To celebrate the twentieth year since the release of their debut album, Oasis will be re-releasing their first three studio albums over the course of 2014. All three albums have been meticulously remastered and will be released, in chronological order, with a carefully selected collection of rarities and additional tracks culled from Oasis label Big Brother Recordings and the band’s own archives.

‘Definitely Maybe’, the band’s debut album, will be released on the 19th May, with ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ to follow later in the year. Each album will be made available as a special edition 3 CD set, heavyweight vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, and extremely limited deluxe box set (including both formats plus a 56 page hard back book, bonus 7” and exclusive memorabilia) as well as standard CD and digital formats. In addition to the special releases mentioned above, Oasis have also pressed a limited cassette run of their original demo. This is the product likely to sell out the fastest, so if remastered demos are your thing head here and be prepared to shell out £10.00 for 8 songs (that’s $16.69, aka $2+/track).

Side note: As someone who knows a thing or two about tape labels, I can tell you that’s likely an 8x markup from the cost of the tapes, if not more. Pretty impressive.

There was no hint or mention of an actual reunion in any of the latest Oasis announcements. If twenty years of musical history (and relentless demand) cannot bring this group back together, I am not sure it will ever happen.
