Even Emmure Look Bored Listening To Their New Song

Whenever a band makes it their business to try and push the boundaries of music and good taste they run the risk of eventually painting themselves into a corner. After more than half a decade of touring and a steady stream of new material every eighteen months or so, it seems Emmure have finally reached this point themselves, and it does not bode well for their upcoming studio album.

Over the weekend, a new song from Emmure titled “Nemesis” found its way online. It’s the first song to surface from the upcoming album Eternal Enemies, and in sticking with the band’s proven promotional efforts it debuted with its own music video. The black and white clip, which you can see below, finds the band performing in an empty loft, likely in the same building that houses Victory Records HQ. The music builds, the camera cuts quickly, but no amount of slick editing tricks can hide the fact everyone except frontman Frankie Palmeri looks like they would rather be doing almost anything else with their time. The guitarists may be the worst of all, as the song’s incredibly simplistic structure makes both Jesse Ketive and Mike Mulholland appear under utilized even though the camera refuses to look away from closeups of extremely basic chugging.

The lyrics for “Nemesis” do little to help the song’s case. Frankie Palmeri has long championed a ‘me against the world’ message in his music, and that is again the source of his rage on this track. Fuck you for not getting him. Fuck you for not understanding what Emmure are trying to do. Fuck you for trying to hold them back. Fuck you because fuck you. He’s Frankie Palmeri and even though he’s toured the world for the past several years and touched the lives of countless people worldwide, who in turn have supported him financially and allowed him to avoid needing a 9-5 job, he still feels like the world is a cold place void of love and compassion.

How many times can a band sell the same audience the same bullshit message of being tough and standing your ground before people realize there is nothing behind the wall-of-sound production with any redeeming value? “Nemesis” could have easily fit on Slave To The Game, and if you cut a few electronic elements it could just as easily fall in line with any other recording in the group’s catalog. They’ve created a niche for themselves and it’s now completely saturated. Pack up the bandwagon and move on.

Eternal Enemies arrives in stores sometime in April. Pre-orders are available now.

This post… made my day. Wow, we should be friends. “How many times can a band sell the same audience the same bullshit message of being tough and standing your ground before people realize there is nothing behind the wall-of-sound production with any redeeming value?” You are smashing the nail on the head!

Except that every emmure song has a different message. look at rusted over wet dreams look at you got a henna tattoo. look at lessons from nichole. look at fucking area 64-66, or cries of credo which is about alien rape. palmeri encompasses more in his lyrics than ANY other artist I can think of in this genre Your review is very well-written but I think you’ve just never tried to appreciate them because you’ve always been on the hater bandwagon. pack up and move on

Please don’t tell me you think Frankie’s writing is as amazing as it sounds like you think it is. You should listen to other stuff even in the same genre. There’s no hater bandwagon. Listen to the song dude. He asks for it.

I’ve listened to it, and there’s nothing to make me think he’s not going to cover a variety of topics on the new album. There IS a hater bandwagon, and that’s the reason every metal-elitist forum is bashing emmure. I DO listen to other stuff – this music is my fucking life bro. And saying that you don’t think his writing is amazing, because people try to represent him with “I wanna watch you suck his dick” when he also wrote rusted over wet dreams which is about his girlfriend aborting his child.. and “i carve a path in me thats dark and narrow so you cant follow trace trace your hands around my misguided heart and watch the world fall apart” name one fucking lyric thats better than that, not saying you cant but you’re gonna have to hunt.

    You’re right it’s pretty hard but I’ll give it a try…
    “I feel like shit
My suggestion is to keep your distance cuz right now im dangerous
    We’ve all felt like shit
    And been treated like shit
All those motherfuckers that want to step up
I hope you know I pack a chain saw
    I’ll skin your ass raw
And if my day keeps goin’ this way I just might break somethin’ tonight…” Courtesy of Limp Bizkit

Haha ok. opinions then. Im still gona listen to emmure. And for the record Id listen to them even if their lyrics were “You know you love me, I know you careJust shout whenever, and I’ll be there
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never ever ever be apart”

Its funny, my first impression of the song brought on the looming issue of humanities apocalypse given the time frame for the polar ice caps & Greenland to melt and ensuing the destruction of 80% of the worlds cities in the next 50 years. This song speaks to me, for my hatred of the republican shlock that turned Al Gore from a respected name to the punch of a joke about climate change. I enjoy the fact that the state of Texas is going to burn first in their massive drought they have had for the past 3 years. Right now theres a war going on in the North Pole as new passages open up because of Global Warming, the people in power have no concern except for immediate short term gains in expense of the destruction of our planet. I’ll be long dead, but today I know their mansions will flood and our collapse will be in their hands.

I’m into the song, the band’s songs are very memorable.
