We’ve been talking about Lykke Li‘s highly-anticipated I Never Learn since it was announced in February, taking you through “heart-wrenching” videos and rap-remixes of the loneliest and most forlorn of lamentations. It has all led to this moment, with the whole album now streaming via NPR’s First Listen.
“[T]he final installment in a conceptual trilogy,” it promises to be a harrowing 33 minutes. Lykke Li’s lyrical, vibrantly elegiac pop here bears titles like “I Never Learn,” “Never Gonna Love Again,” and “Sleeping Alone.” Partnered with emphatic instrumentation and timely orchestral swells, I Never Learn has a tight grip, rewarding and yet unrelenting. I swear I wrote that part about track titles before seeing that NPR did the same. The intent is fairly overt.
Though overt, there is a tremendous amount of tact and depth to the nine tracks, each a taut, dynamic creation. Go now and feel. I Never Learn is out May 6 via Atlantic.
