The Contortionist Announce Third Full-Length, ‘Language’

The Contortionist‘s Exoplanet is one of my favorite metal albums, period. Intrinsic didn’t quite live up to my expectations following their debut, but the album fared well enough with critics and fans alike. After the announcement early last year that lead vocalist Jonathan Carpenter would be leaving the band to focus on family, I immediately lost hope that The Contortionist would ever recover from the slight disappointment left by their sophomore LP. However, it was almost immediately revealed that Last Chance To Reason’s Mike Lessard would be filling Carpenter’s shoes, and all seemed right in the metal world.

Lessard had already filled in with the band on tour in the past and his vocal style is similar enough to that of Carpenter’s. If anyone could fill the void, it’d be him. Now, over a year later, the Indiana-based quintet have announced that their third LP (first with Lessard at the helm) will be released on September 16 via eOne Music / Good Fight Music. No further information has been revealed at this time but we’d expect the album’s lead single to surface in the coming weeks, possibly with a look at the album’s art and tracklisting as well.

Regarding the recording process with Jamie King at The Basement Recording Studio in Winston-Salem, NC, guitarist Robby Baca shares, “Making this record from start to finish was quite an experience. From the initial attempts at song writing to the tracking sessions with Jamie, it’s an experience that I cant wait to share with everyone.” Newcomer vocalist Mike Lessard expands, “I’m beyond happy to share this album with people! The experience and result are something I’m very proud to have been a part of. I think this album will show how we’ve all progressed as writers and players.”
