‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Dominates the Charts, Breaks Box Office Record

As different as Guardians of the Galaxy may be from Marvel Studios’ recent releases, this sci-fi/adventure sure did leave quite a dent in this weekend’s box office charts by making an estimated $94 million. While closely following up to the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s $95 million opening weekend pull from this past April, Guardians has broken the weekend record for the month of August which was preciously held by The Bourne Ultimatum‘s $69.3 million weekend.

Thanks to Lucy‘s continuing success, Get on Up charted in third place with $14 million made in its opening weekend. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 76%, things could still pick up next week for the James Brown biopic.
