Stream MALL WALK’s Catchy Single “Criminal Code”

Oakland trio MALL WALK may not be a household name yet, but it’s only a matter of time. The post-punk indie rockers are following up last year’s eponymous debut EP with 7″ Criminal Code which drops March 31 via Vacant Stare Records. The two-song release sees the musicians whipping up equal parts psych, rock, and punk for a gritty take on pop structure. In anticipation of the release, they have shared the title track for streaming.

On “Criminal Code,” MALL WALK scrape the bottom of a barrel for crumbling dirt and then tip their guitars inwards, filling it to the brim with crunchy, abrasive riffs and a confident bass that thunders at its core. Thanks to a fine balance between cool vocals and the heavy musical tone, “Criminal Code” is easy to follow along. There’s something smart about the writing. No matter how many times you give it a listen–and trust us, you’ll want to listen to it a lot–it’s impossible to figure out. MALL WALK have produced a psych-tinged single that bodes well for their future.
