WATCH: Puddles Pity Party (The Sad Clown With A Golden Voice) – “Another Tear Falls”

As I work on my end-of-year lists of favorites and suggestions, I listen to a playlist of the year’s best. This is made up of songs and records I enjoyed from January to December, each possibilities for those few spots worthy of writing about at the end of the year. Then there’s Puddles.

I found Puddles Pity Party (real name, Michael Geier AKA Big Mike) a few months ago when he released a cover of “Royals” by Lorde. Since then, I’ve added him to my concert tracker and sought out every recording I can find of his very special performances.

Today, Puddles and his band of mopey musicians released a cover of “Another Tear Falls.” The song was written for Gene McDaniels in 1962, popularized by The Walker Brothers in 1966, and perfected by Puddles The Sad Clown in 2013.

What makes Puddles great isn’t his height, although he stands close to 7 feet in stature. It’s also not his not-so-humorous clown attire. It’s his voice. The monstrous entertainer is a classically trained singer with a mad sense of humor and poise.

This is Puddles, your new favorite thing.
