Red Hot Chili Peppers announce new album ‘The Getaway,’ share lead single “Dark Necessities”

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks getting new music from heavy hitters that have been dormant for a while. We’ve been gifted with a new Blink-182 song, a new Radiohead song, and now Red Hot Chili Peppers are joining the party with their new track “Dark Necessities.”

The song is a funky smooth jam, with Flea throwing down a spectacular bass line. Anthony Kiedis’ vocals are still as great and unique as ever, and Chad Smith and John Klinghoffer build a wonderful instrumental to round the whole thing out. The keyboard-filled, spacey interlude is a highlight, but the whole song is worth a listen.

In addition, the band announced a release date of June 17 for their eleventh studio album, entitled The Getaway. Pre-orders are currently ongoing, including a number of special bundles that contain vinyl, cassettes, and lithographs. This will be the band’s first album since 2011’s I’m With You, and will come a little over a month after the 10-year anniversary of Stadium Arcadium. Needless to say, we want to get our hands on The Getaway ASAP.
