Arena Rap recently caught up with Patrick Stump to talk about his background in hip-hop, his new EP, Truant Wave, and more. Patrick talks about his sound in the below except and you can read the rest of the interview here.
ARENARAP: Your recently released EP “Truant Wave” features pop and R&B influences, as well as some cool alternative ideas. How do you describe your sound? Can it be defined?
PS: That’s kind of the thing; when I said I was doing a record all the people that knew me were like “All right, it’s an old school R&B record,” cause of what I listen to. Then people who only know me as the Fall Out Boy dude assumed I’d do a pop-punk record. The thing is I’m neither: I’m kind of both, and I want to contribute to both musical languages. There’s not really a scene yet for kids that dig Prince, Refused, Herbie Hancock, Saves the Day, and Jay-Z. Hopefully I can do something about that.
