SINGLE REVIEW: Jack White – Machine Gun Silhouette

Artist: Jack White
Song: Machine Gun Silhouette
Album: Blunderbuss
Label: Third Man Records

Yesterday, former White Stripes frontman Jack White released the second song to be heard off his forthcoming solo debut, Blunderbuss. We apologize for not bringing you a stream then, but you can now stream “Machine Gun Silhouette” by clicking below:

The song clearly showcases a different side of White than we heard on “Love Interruption,” so the UTG staff thought examining the new material was a must. As it turns out, a lot of staff is fond of Jack White’s work, so it was decided to collectively present our opinions instead of allowing one to ramble on for what would likely be far too long. Without further ado, here are our critiques:

“Jack white continues to write music at a depth and maturity far beyond his age. “Machine Gun Silhouette” evokes a vintage country sound that would lead listeners to requisition if he grew up touring with Bocephus.” – Joshua Hammond (Twitter)

“The instrumentation is so precise, and it feels like a true down-home southern riff, full of crunchy guitar melodies, violins and powerful drumming.” – Grant Trimboli (Twitter)

“Jack White proves that no matter what genre of music he feels like putting out music in, he kills it. Each and every single time. That song ruled so hard.” – Tyler Osborne (Twitter)

“This is the Jack White I have been waiting to hear more of since first teased on early White Stripes records. Raw, honest, and evoking a sense of timelessness that no other current act can match.” – James Shotwell (Twitter)

    It’s not off of his album, it’s a b-side.
